Thuy & Neal’s little Meet Cute
Still cleaned up nicely after 10 years.
Here we are at the start of 2016, at a Hindu/Vietnamese/American wedding
Okay, we’ve been together for over 10 years, shared the same office for 7 years, and married for 5. I think it’s about time we introduce ourselves a little and share some fun stories about how we came together!
It all kicked off back in early 2015. Picture the most vibrant, high-energy scene you can imagine: a massive Indian wedding. We’re talking sensory overload in the best way possible, beautiful formals, music shaking the dancefloor, and vibrant reds and golds everywhere you looked.
Thuy was there as the photographer, probably contorting into weird shapes to get the perfect shot of the bride’s intricate henna and ornate bangles. Neal was there as the cinematographer, focused on capturing the vows without tripping over the floral decor. We crossed paths, said a quick "hey," and went back to work. We were just two creatives grinding on a weekend.
But the universe (and the wedding industry) wasn't done with us. Two months later? Another Indian wedding. Same vibrant chaos, same two camera nerds. But this time, we had a little help.
Enter Vinny.
Vinny was Thuy’s intern at the time, and we have to give credit where it’s due, Vinny had a tiny crush on Neal. So, when we decided to hang out for the first time outside of weddings, Vinny tagged along. You know, to "supervise."
That first hangout changed the game, though. We found out that Neal somehow, in all his years on Earth, had never eaten Thai food. Thuy took this as a personal emergency. We immediately dragged him to a tiny Thai spot in Cambridge, and let’s just say watching someone experience their first proper curry is a bonding moment you don’t come back from.
After that? We were pretty much inseparable. (Sorry, Vinny!)
It didn't take long for us to realize we were a solid team. Thuy spent a good chunk of time hyping Neal up, convincing him that he was way too talented to be working for anyone else. Seriously, the guy has vision. Eventually, the peer pressure worked! In 2019, we officially joined forces, and Fern & Feather Studio was born.
Working Hard.
Our boss making sure we’re staying on top of editing.
But let’s be real, we aren't the actual bosses here. That title belongs to Soba Noodles. We adopted him in 2018. He’s our sweet, polydactyl tabby with a clipped ear and extra toes that look like little thumbs. He mostly manages the "napping on editing keyboards" department, but he’s the heart of the operation.
When we aren't shooting weddings or serving Soba his dinner, we are usually on a plane. We’re obsessed with travel. Neal is actually on a mission to hit every single continent. He’s knocked out all of them except Antarctica. It’s on the list, strictly pending the opening of a decent noodle shop down there.
So, that’s us! Just two creatives who love love, adventure, and good food. We’re so glad you’re here!
