PRICING GUIDE

FERN & FEATHER STUDIO

First off, we want to thank you again for reaching out. We understand there are many creative studios out there, and we’re honored you have found and inquired with us!

It’s a daunting task trying to figure out pricing, packages and what you truly need. Hopefully, by the end of this, you’ll have a better understanding of what we offer and why we’re priced the way we are. Now, let’s get started!

The Value of your Investment

Yes, we do understand our prices are higher than some photographers and cinematographers in the area. Each studio has their own style and business structure. In Boston the average cost for a photography alone is around $6,000, that’s just for a standard 8 hour, non-denominational wedding. With our extensive experience in the wedding industry, and leaders in capturing multi-cultural weddings, we believe our prices reflect the true value of work and service. Fern & Feather Studio is our full-time job, it’s our life and livelihood. It’s how we pay the bills and more importantly, it’s fulfilling work. We are extremely lucky and grateful we get to do what we love.

We only shoot around 20 weddings a year. This might sound like a lot, but in our industry, this number is extremely low. Many of our peers are shooting well over 50 weddings a season.

We are not in the business of booking every single wedding that comes our way. We want to provide the best photography and cinematography to clients we truly value our artistic vision and who truly wants Thuy & Neal, and not just any photographer or filmmaker. Our business is us, it represents us and our values. We do not have a team or associate shooters. When you book with us, there’s no question who will walk through the doors.

Because we only shoot a limited number of weddings a year, we have more time to dedicate to our couples. We personally handle everything from consultation to final delivery. Please think of us as more than just your photographer/filmmaker, we are a resource for you to use!

CINEMATOGRAPHY PACKAGES

Unlike our photography packages, our cinematography offerings are not based on hours, but by the final edited film you want. Choose between a Highlight Film or a slightly longer Feature Wedding Film.

Neal is your man, he’s your lead shooter. Because of the type of films we create, Neal generally shoots weddings by himself, with multiple cameras. If you wish to add second filmmaker present, please see the a-la-carte add-ons.

Highlight Film: $7500

  • 4-6 min. Cinematic Highlight Film

  • One filmmaker (Neal)

  • All the raw video footage on a hard drive

  • Highlight film delivered as a digital download and on a USB stick

Feature Wedding Film: $8500

  • 6-9 min. Cinematic Feature Film

  • Complimentary Social Media Trailer (up to 1 min, delivered within 1 week after the wedding)

  • One filmmaker (Neal)

  • 4K footage

  • All the raw video footage on a hard drive

  • Feature film delivered as a digital download and on a USB stick

A-la-carte offerings:

  • $300/hr - Pre-wedding Events (civil ceremony, welcome dinner)

  • $800 - 1 minute social media trailer (add-on for Highlight Film)

  • $800 - Pre-Wedding shoot, similar to a photographer’s engagement session, 1 min. cinematic edit

  • $1200 - Edited Ceremony & Reception live events. While we do not offer longer cinematic edits (from previous experience most couples don’t watch these types of edits anymore), instead we offer an edited ceremony and reception. It’s cleanly cut between the different camera angles, uses the natural audio from the event, and is like watching the event “live”. For more details, we are happy to provide more information and examples.

  • $1000 - Second Filmmaker for the full day

  • $600 - Second Filmmaker for half a day

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Just in case you still had questions! We want to be as transparent as possible.

Q. Do I have to book both photo & video services or can I just hire one?

A. You don't have to book both of us. Ideally, we'd love to provide both photo and video for your wedding, but at the end of the day we want to make sure you are comfortable with our services. If your style or vision is not aligned with what we offer, we won't be offended if you choose to go in a different direction!

Q. What are the perks of booking booking both photo & video together?

A. We love working together! You'd think living and working together would get boring and we'd get annoyed with each other by now, but we absolutely love our jobs and we do it better when we're together! There's a level of comfort, and we understand each other. While we can work with a different photographer or a different filmmaker, there's a special energy we have when working with each other that can't be duplicated.

Q. Do you offer a discount or special rate if I book both photo & video?

A. In short, we do not. It's not because we don't think it's worth it. We don't believe price should be a determining factor in choosing the right photographer or filmmaker for your wedding. Because we don't shoot a ton of weddings a year, we truly want to work with clients who want us and our style. Our price is structured in a way to make things fair, whether you choose to go with just one or both.

We do offer complimentary engagement session footage for the final film. If you book both photo & video, Neal will come along to the engagement session and capture more stunning eye candy shots for the video. We’ve been offering this service for the past couple of years, and couples love it. It adds an extra layer to the video, and we’ve never seen any other video company provide this!

Q. Is your business insured? Our venue requires all vendors to be licensed and insured.

A. Yes! We are fully insured from liability insurance to equipment and backup insurance.

Q. Who will show up for my wedding?

A. We are not a large wedding company, we are a small boutique studio so we try not to shoot too many weddings a year. Thuy will always be the lead photographer and Neal will always be the lead filmmaker. It's our unique style and experience you are paying for, so we will never outsource that to someone else. We know there are other companies out there, with better prices, but can they guarantee the same quality if they're a big firm with rotating staff? Here, we take care of everything ourselves from the consultation, to shooting the events, and finally to editing the final photographs and videos.

On your wedding day, Thuy will bring a second shooter to help cover angles we can’t personally get. These second shooters are not students or interns, we only work with qualified peers. Many of our second shooters have been working with us for years, we trust them fully!

Q. Why are second shooters included in the photography packages but not for the cinematography packages?

A. With photography, we understand you want to see everything. We strive to make sure we capture all of your wedding details and lots of candids of friends and family. By having two photographers, we’re able to capture multiple angles and moments.

With cinematography however, we are shooting to create a cinematic film. With years of editing, Neal has found that most of his films have comprised of 95% of his own footage. With the advancements in cameras, Neal is able to run multiple cameras by himself. By removing the second filmmaker, we are simplifying the pricing and making our service more affordable. If you plan on purchasing a documentary edit, it’ll be helpful to add on a second shooter.

Q. How can I pay and how are payments broken up?

A. We try to keep things manageable by splitting the cost into three installments. The first is a deposit, which is 25% of the package price and it's required, along with the signed contract to secure and hold your wedding date(s). The second payment, which is 50% of the remaining cost is due halfway between the booking date and wedding date. The final payment is due at the wedding.

We accept checks, cash and Venmo, Zelle and credit cards (with a 3.5% processing fee).

Q. Finally, who's that adorable cat in all of your photos?!

A. His name is Soba and he's the best cat in the world! Our office is located in Northborough Mass, if you ever want to swing by to chat about your wedding, Soba will surely greet you affectionately demanding rubs :)
